PlumbAdvisor Source Library
Primary source systems used for reviewed plumbing articles.
This page lists the source systems PlumbAdvisor prefers for reviewed homeowner plumbing guides. Article pages should cite the most relevant source near safety, product-choice, water-use, health, code, cost, or installation claims.
Preferred source systems
- Water efficiency: EPA WaterSense, local utility conservation/rebate pages, and fixture manufacturer specifications.
- Toilets: EPA WaterSense, toilet manufacturer diagrams, fill-valve/flapper manufacturer instructions, and utility leak guidance.
- Faucets/aerators/showerheads: manufacturer spec sheets, replacement-parts diagrams, WaterSense where the label supports the claim, and current package labels.
- Dishwashers and disposers: dishwasher installation/use manuals, disposer installation manuals, and appliance support pages.
- PVC and pipe materials: pipe/fitting manufacturer technical resources, solvent-cement manufacturer instructions, and local code/AHJ caveats.
- Water softeners and water quality: manufacturer manuals, local water-quality reports, CDC/private-well guidance, and NSF certification listings.
- Drain standing water and backups: drain-cleaner labels/SDS, public-health contamination guidance, utility/sewer-backup guidance, and plumber thresholds.
Sources we avoid relying on alone
Contractor blogs, retailer blurbs, old migrated snippets, and AI-generated summaries are not enough support for safety, product, code, health, cost, or installation claims.
