Widespread vs Centerset Faucets: Basic Fit Differences
Compare hole spacing, deck layout, handle separation, and manufacturer templates before buying a centerset or widespread faucet.
What is the difference?
A centerset faucet commonly combines its spout and handles on one compact base, often for holes four inches apart. A widespread faucet has separate spout and handles, commonly set farther apart. The actual model's installation range, not the label alone, determines fit.

For example, Delta's 25854LF is listed for three-hole, four-inch centerset installations, while its 35833LF widespread model fits three-hole installations with six to sixteen inches between centers. These are examples, not universal ranges.
Measure the existing sink
- Count openings and measure from the center of one outer hole to the other.
- Check hole diameter, deck thickness, spout reach, backsplash and handle clearance against the chosen model's specification.
- Confirm drain compatibility with the sink's overflow and inspect accessible shutoffs and supply connections.
Do not enlarge a counter opening based on a product photo. A plumber or countertop installer can assess a changed layout, stuck valve or damaged surface.
